The Channel

Erik Grankvist (age 26)

He does now have a girlfriend. She loves what he can do with his hands!

The Cabin

His cabin was built by hand using traditional tools and no fancy lifting equipment.

His built video went viral:

That’s 90 minutes that’ll inspire you to escape to the woods.

Erik isn’t against modern technology, and has upgraded his cabin with:

➜ A birch bark roof

➜ Solar panels so he can do YouTube videos

➜ A tractor to move wood around

He plans to add a wood stove in the near future.

His cabin is based in the mountains of Sweden. The cabin is on his grandparent’s property, so no, he didn’t purchase the land himself. He pays some rent to them through the money he makes on YouTube.

Through scouting on Google Maps, I have identified his exact location. However, to protect his privacy and reduce the risk of vandals, I have elected not to disclose where his cabin is located.

His Story

Erik felt lost, even though society had clearly paved the path for him. He was 17 and living in Stockholm, Sweden with no direction in life.

After seeing the documentary “Alone in the wilderness” by Dick Proenneke, Erik became completely obsessed with the idea of just packing a rucksack of hand tools and wandering off into the vast forest of Sweden to create his own life, living off the land and build a log cabin.

He found my meaning, but he was still in high school. His Grandparents owned forest so he started spending more and more time with them every weekend, wandering out, dreaming of my obsession and asking for advice.

This is contrary to most teenagers who prefer to play games and hang out on TikTok.

Erik had absolutely no prior knowledge of building things, but had a burning obsession to learn. When he turned 18, he told everyone of his plans.

Some replied in praise, while others were critical. Few envied him.

His parents gifted him a GoPro camera so he could at least film some of his adventures. Interestingly, he hadn’t even thought about filming anything but he’s glad that he did, since he has a million subscribers today.

His story is of hard work, pain, cold, making many many mistakes and figuring out how to solve problems all alone by trial and error. During those 3 years, he also became passionate in filmmaking and invested in a better camera.

The whole journey is filmed on a tripod by Erik himself, which was a struggle (he considers himself a little insane).

Today, he has more critics than ever before. Some say that he has a film crew and construction team, but he takes this as one big compliment.

Erik simply hopes to inspire others the same way Dick Proenneke inspired him.

Net Worth

Guys on Youtube are typically wealthier than we imagine.

As of 2024, Erik Grankvist has a net worth of $1,570,000 US dollars. This is based on the value of his cabin, his land, his truck and online business.

That certainly helps him live the idyllic life in the woods.

It’s also surprising how much he makes with his channel.

Erik Grankvist makes $22,000 per month on YouTube with ads, brand sponsorships and affiliate links.

It’s clear that he’s treating his channel like a real business, but places a ton of effort into crafting epic content.

His focus is on quality over quantity. This is why he only publishes 1 video per month.

He hasn’t yet done any collaborations with other cabin-living YouTubers.

Big Moments

During his journey, Erik has experienced:

➜ Catching a wild boar

➜ He bought his own dog

➜ He made his own foundations

And remarkably, he peeled his own logs by hand.

Future Plans

Erik would like to find a like-minded woman to settle down with. He may have children one day.

He also would like to build an additional cabin as an office.

None that I could find. He certainly doesn’t have hired help or a film crew.

What can we learn from his #cabinpreneur journey?

➜ You don’t need many skills, resources or money

➜ Hard work and a willingness to learn is important

➜ Stay humble, committed and focused on the journey

And most importantly – freedom is truly found in having your own cabin in the woods.

My Thoughts

Erik encapsulates everything we align with here at Cabinpreneur.

He has built a remarkable cabin by himself, through the use of simple tools, a persistent attitude and plenty of time.

Through this process, he’s garnered respect, admiration and even some envy along the way. But one things for sure – he has truly found his purpose in life.

Perhaps it’s your turn to do the same.
